DUNBARTON — A police cruiser was struck while parked on a snowy road in Dunbarton yesterday.

The incident took place on Robert Rogers Road between Jacqueline Drive and Montalona Road at around 8:45 p.m.

Police say a vehicle traveling westbound on Robert Rogers Road at a speed that was too fast for the existing conditions started to lose control coming down and around a corner and started to slide sideways towards the parked cruiser.

The officer started to reverse direction but was unable to back up far enough to avoid being struck.

At the time of the collision, the roads were slick and it was snowing.

The officer and the driver of the other vehicle, an 18-year-old woman from Dunbarton, were not injured.

The cruiser that was struck, a 2021 Ford Interceptor SUV, sustained front-end damage and will be out of service for an extended period of time for repairs.

The other vehicle sustained extensive damage to its driver’s side front and rear doors.

Much of the impact and potential for injuries and further damage were mitigated by the cruiser’s push bar.
