CANAAN — A 42-year-old man was killed during a single-vehicle crash in Canaan on Thursday.
The crash took place near the intersection of Route 4 and Lafortune Road at around
11:30 p.m.
According to the report, a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Keith Hawxhurst, of Canaan, New Hampshire, was traveling east when the vehicle collided with a guardrail on the westbound side of the road.
Police say the vehicle went airborne for roughly 100 feet before colliding with the steel guardrails again and rolling down an embankment into the Indian River.
Life saving measures were performed and Hawxhurst was transported to Dartmouth Heath in Lebanon, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police say the crash remains under investigation, but excessive speed is a known factor.
