SALEM — A 30-year-old woman from New Hampshire was arrested in Salem, New Hampshire, on Friday.
Authorities were notified of a vehicle stolen from a convenience store on North Broadway at around 7:05 p.m.
Police say the vehicle, a 2020 Jeep Gladiator, had been left running in the parking lot when it was stolen.
Several minutes later, police noticed the vehicle traveling south on North Policy Street and attempted to stop it.
The stolen Jeep attempted to elude pursuit by increasing speed and turning onto Northeastern Boulevard where it crashed into a utility pole.
The driver fled the crashed vehicle on foot and attempted to flee but was quickly taken into custody by police.
The driver was identified as Mary Fairfield, of Amherst, NH.
The stolen Jeep sustained heavy damage from the crash, which also sliced the utility pole in half.
Fairfield was processed and held without bail and facing charges of theft by unauthorized taking over $1,500, disobeying an officer, 2 counts, conduct after an accident, resisting arrest, driving after suspension from DUI, false report to law enforcement, and breach of bail.
Police are warning the public not to leave their cars running, with the keys in the ignition.
