RUTLAND — The Rutland City Police have named their new police dog King Nash.
The name was chosen after the community voted on potential names for the K9.
“We want to thank our community for helping us name our newest 4-pawed officer,” the department said in a statement.
Some of the honorable mentions in the vote included K9 Strawberry, Hardknees, Water Bottle, Doggy McDogface, K9 Dirt, Sir Sniffs-a-lot.
K9 King Nash comes from Shallow Creek Kennels in Pennsylvania.
He is a 16-month old German Shepherd from the Czech Republic.
K9 King Nash’s handler is Officer James Rajda, who has been an officer with department since 2018.
The team will begin training next week to learn about narcotics detection.
The Rutland City Police canines have all been given the first name of “King” in honor of Teresca King, and Nash is carrying on with that tradition.
