NEWPORT — A perfect golfing venue was the order of the day at Orleans Country Club on Sunday as the 34th Annual Scramble kicked off.
The event raised over $22,000 this year.
The money is used for scholarships to students pursuing a healthcare career.
Katie Goulet, RN, who works at North Country Hospital and received one of the hospital’s scholarships during nursing school, finished the scramble with closest to the pin (twice) and women’s longest drive.
Bob Green held the men’s longest drive.
On top of that, Goulet’s mixed team placed 2nd Low Gross with Kelly Goulet, Bobby Jo, and Todd Rivard (64).
Men’s Division results were: Low Gross Jim Murphy, Mike Vinton, Skip Lindsey, Lyle Noyes (63); 1st Low Net Steve Wright, Chris Clements, Rob Hodgkins, Patrick Haugwitz (59); 2nd Low Net Bronson Smith, Logan Curtis, Jonathan Gilcris, Joe Wilcox (60).
The remaining Mixed Division results include 1st Gross (59) Paul Racine Carol Boucher, Jane Horton, Bob Green; 1st Low Net (58) Gary Bickford, Tracy, and Todd Mitchell, Steve Fisher; 2nd Low Net (59) Jim Holcomb, Derek Judd, Melissa Scherer, Gary Taylor, 3rd Low Net (61) Irene Farrar, Steve Hurd, Bev Gage, Sharon Gladu.
Organizers say that the success of this tournament year after year would not be possible without great sponsorship support as well as the teams who play.
At high school graduation time, North Country Hospital awarded 17 new $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a degree in various healthcare fields of study, including nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, and more.
Each year provided these students stay within a healthcare field and accomplish at least a 3.0 GPA, their scholarship is renewed.
This results in about $40,000 benefitting 40 students each year, all coming from the hospital foundation’s fundraising efforts.
Organizers gave special thanks to lead sponsors including People’s United Bank (a division of M&T Bank), NFP Property & Casualty, HUB International, CPS, D&C Transportation, and North Country Hospital Medical Staff.
