EAST CHARLESTON — The NorthWoods Stewardship Center recently launched the second edition of their Northeast Kingdom Mountain Trail Guide.
Originally published in 2010, the popular first edition of the book quickly sold out of its first printing.
This 250-page second edition, published in June, builds on the first edition, adding nearly 100 pages of new maps, photos, trail histories, and descriptions.
Updated with 12 additional trails, the book provides over 20 total trail descriptions in the Northeast Kingdom, including those in the popular Groton State Forest and the recently completed long-distance Kingdom Heritage Trail, among others.
“This book was a real community effort,” NorthWoods Communications Director Kelsey Evans said. “We had volunteers who hiked and ground-truthed the trails, created maps, and submitted photos of their favorite lookouts. We are very grateful to the members of the hiking community who helped make this book a success.”
The book was completed with funding in part from the Vermont Community Foundation and the Westmore Association.
All proceeds will help fund the continuing work of NorthWoods’ Conservation Corps, Forest Stewardship, Conservation Science, and Education programs.
After a successful launch at Dirt Church Brewing Co in July, the book has been enjoying brisk online sales and distribution to bookshops and general stores throughout the region.
