MONTPELIER — Local police say they have received several concerns recently from motorists regarding vehicles obstructing traffic.
The vehicles are waiting to turn into multiple businesses along the Berlin Street, River Street, and Route 2 corridor.
Police are working with area businesses to alter traffic patterns within their lots to better accommodate waiting customers.
Police say they plan to accomplish this through new signage and requesting patrons use common sense and courtesy.
Obstructions could also be avoided by pulling into the lot and parking in order to make a purchase instead of waiting in line for a drive-through, as one example.
Police say stopping or standing in the traveled portion of a road is prohibited and can result in a fine or arrest, depending on the circumstances.
“Please do not block our community’s roadways,” a statement issued by MPD reads.
They are reminding the public that no purchase is worth a violation, obstructing the flow of traffic, or inhibiting emergency vehicle access.
