Police: Single-vehicle crash in Derby leads to charges

DERBY — A 25-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a crash in Derby on Sunday.

The single-vehicle crash took place on US Route 5 at around 10:55 p.m.

Police say they observed the vehicle traveling in the wrong lane at a high rate of speed, almost striking the oncoming State Police cruiser.

The driver was identified as Ashton Chaske, of Derby.

Following an investigation, police say Chaske displayed signs of impairment and was taken into custody and processed for suspicion of DUI drugs.

He was later released on a citation to appear in court to answer for the charges of suspicion of DUI drugs, negligent operation, cruelty to a child, and excessive speed.
