CLARENDON — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in Clarendon on Saturday.
The crash took place on US Route 7 at the intersection with Middle Road at around 10:15 a.m.
Police say they had just been dispatched to an erratic driver report regarding a black minivan bearing an unknown New Jersey registration.
According to the report, the vehicle was headed north on US Route 7 at speeds exceeding the posted speed limits as well as unsafely passing vehicles.
Following an investigation, it was found that James DeFazio, 42, of Nutley, New Jersey, drove north in a negligent manner while disregarding the traffic control device holding northbound traffic.
Prior to the crash Robert Goddard, 70, of Rutland, was headed south making a left turn onto Windcrest Road on a green turn signal.
DeFazio entered the intersection, causing a head-on collision with Goddard.
Police say after the collision, DeFazio continued, sliding sideways through the grassy area along the right side of the north lane for approximately 344 feet before hitting the end of a guardrail.
Neither operator reported injuries from the crash.
State police were assisted on scene by members of the Rutland Town Fire Department and Regional Ambulance Services.
