NEWPORT — Last Sunday marked the 33rd Annual Scholarship Golf Classic for North Country Hospital, held at Newport Country Club.
Twenty-six teams braved the rain and at times windy conditions to help raise money for future healthcare scholarships.
Cannon blasts were heard frequently through the day on the 8th hole, where the air-powered golf cannon was set up.
With a donation, players had the opportunity to “drive the ball further than ever” to help their game.
Golf cannon sponsors were Acadia Benefits and Lavallee Brensinger Architects.
Northpoint Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram provided the chance to win a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the 2nd hole, but there were no claims to a ‘hole-in-one.’
Men’s longest drive went to Alex Giroux, and ladies longest drive went to Tanya Lamoureux.
Each year this award honors the memory of Perry and Priscilla Fitch.
Closest to the Pin awardees were Doug Spates, knocking the ball 5’6” from the hole on hole 2, Denis Fortin, 6’9” on hole 6, Andrea Carbine, 8’2” on hole 13, and Cash Mosher, 8’8” on hole 17.
The purpose of the tournament is to raise dollars for scholarships.
In total, 104 players took part on Sunday.
Forty-eight scholarships have been paid out from all hospital scholarship funds in 2021.
These include 17 new awards as well as 31 renewals.
