1 min read

NEWPORT — Local emergency workers and a DHART helicopter were called out to Newport following a snowmobile crash this morning.

The Newport Center Volunteer Fire Department (NCVFD) said they responded along with Newport Ambulance Service (NAS) to the area of Clark Mountain Road at around 11:45 a.m.

Newport City Fire was requested to respond with a Ranger to help get to the victim and bring her out.

Emergency workers say they were able to locate the victim quickly with the help of a local VAST member that had knowledge of the trails.

A DHART helicopter was requested due to the long extraction time and nature of the injuries.

Chief Willis said the DHART helicopter was originally going to land at Newport Airport, but a paramedic requested the helicopter to land at the scene after evaluating the victim.

Chief Willis also said it was discussed having the trail groomer pack down the field for the helicopter to land, but it was able to land in a nearby driveway.

The patient was stabilized and then transferred through DHART.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s department was also on the scene this morning.

At this time the name of the victim has not been released.
