WEST GLOVER — Parker Pie has been working this winter to address food insecurity and access issues caused by the pandemic with a new program to help feed the community.
In 2020, they participated in the Vermont Everyone Eats program.
With the help of Hardwick’s Center for an Agricultural Economy, the LocalVore app, and many dedicated volunteers, Parker Pie joined with other area restaurants to make and distribute free meals every week.
Over two months, they were able to put out 1,900 free meals for local residents.
While funding ran out in December, they have started a GoFundMe campaign to support their continued efforts.
“All of us at Parker Pie care very much about our community,” the GoFundMe page reads. “We want to help, and the best way we know how is by using our resources, our kitchen, and the skills of our amazing and dedicated staff to help feed our community.”
The goal they’ve set is $9,000.
The money will fund 300 meals a week through the end of the month.
Their plan is to use any additional funds raised to address local food insecurity and access issues via other methods, such as the creation of a food shelf, or additional support of the Senior Meals Program.
