ORLEANS — A 39-year-old man from Barton is facing numerous charges, including arson, following an incident early Wednesday morning in Orleans.

The Vermont State Police and the Orleans Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on South Street at around 1:20 a.m.

According to police, witnesses reported seeing Joshua Bacon leaving the scene moments before the vehicle was set on fire.

“Further investigation revealed Bacon set the vehicle on fire using an accelerant,” a statement issued by Trooper Mikkola reads.

Bacon is also accused of causing damage to the vehicle’s windshield and that he stole the front license plate as well.

He was found to be in violation of his active court-ordered conditions of release and was taken into custody Wednesday evening and transported to the Derby barracks.

He was released on a citation to appear in court this afternoon.
