NEWPORT — Vermont airports have received more than $9 million from the federal government to deal with the fallout related to COVID-19.
Locally, Northeast Kingdom International Airport in Newport will receive $30,000.
The funds are part of $10 billion in federal assistance for airports included in the CARES Act that was passed by Congress and signed into law last month.
These funds will help the airports meet their operating expenses, continue current construction, and fulfill ongoing needs.
Caledonia County Airport in Lyndonville also received $30,000.
Burlington International Airport (BTV) received just over $8.7 million.
When the CARES Act was passed last month, the aviation industry nationally was experiencing an 80 percent decline in passenger traffic and is expected to face even more severe financial and operational impacts in the weeks and months ahead.
