DERBY — The Agency of Commerce and Community Development has directed large “big box” retailers, such as Walmart in Derby, to cease in-person sales of non-essential items in order to reduce the number of people coming into the stores.

The new measures went into effect today, and aisles were closed off.

Gov. Phil Scott’s executive order allows only essential businesses to continue in-person sales, including hardware stores, pharmacies, grocery stores, fuel products, and supplies or agricultural equipment.

As of today, box stores must cease the in-person sale of items not listed in the executive order.

This includes arts and crafts, beauty, carpet and flooring, clothing, consumer electronics, entertainment, furniture, and sports equipment.

According to the order, these items may still be purchased by phone with curbside pickup or online.

  1. That’s the only place to show up there ! Sad for the community! Your a socialist that roots for people to beg your sorry piece of flesh! Shame on you?

  2. If people don’t have a debt card. And they need clothes for there kids and diapers and pulls ups and wipes and baby food. How are they supposed to get them if we don’t have a debt card for online services. Did yall thin of that . And older people doesn’t know how to used a computer or a smartphone.. but yall didn’t think about that.

  3. Really rediculous, an alternative would have been to allow the purchase of anything, but limit time in store to 90 minutes per person per day, or even 60 minutes would have been much better than this. I live just 5 minutes away…geeze!!
