LYNDONVILLE — A 33-year-old Lyndonville man was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash that took place on I-91 in Sheffield early this morning.
At around 12:20 a.m. police and emergency workers responded to a report of crash with serious injury southbound on the Interstate at mile marker 149.
Dale Mitchell, 33, of Lyndonville, was headed south when for unknown reasons his vehicle left the roadway on the east shoulder of the Interstate and into the center median, police say.
According to police, evidence on scene indicates Mitchell overcorrected and lost control of his vehicle.
The 2005 Hyundai Elantra then traveled across the travel lane of the Interstate and off the west shoulder, before rolling multiple times.
Mitchell was ejected from the vehicle.
He was transported to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital prior to being airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with what police describe as serious life-threatening injuries.
Interstate 91 south in the area was closed for the duration of the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
