NEWPORT — Six nurse residents recently presented their oral projects and graduated from North Country Hospital’s program, developed last year by nursing leadership.
This is the second class that has gone through the rigorous, eight-month residency, where graduates work with a preceptor in their respective departments, get to work with other clinical areas as well as really get to know the organization as a whole.
At the presentation held in early February, all six of the nurse residents spoke of how the program benefitted them.
They agreed that not being treated as a student, but as a professional, and learning the specifics of policies early on, was a huge benefit.
The graduates include (pictured left to right):
Kathy Bonin, RN, (Vermont Technical College) who works on the Medical/Surgical floor.
Nicole Therrien, RN, (Vermont Technical College) who works on Maternal/Child Health.
Corey Rivers, RN, (Clinton Community College) who works on the Medical/Surgical floor.
Victoria Bruce, RN, (Clinton Community College) who works in the OR.
Shaunna Haley, RN, (Norwich University) who works in the OR.
Connie Griffin, RN, (Clinton Community College) who also works in the OR.
Rhonda Howard, RN and Gail Meunier, RN were the lead instructors for the eight-month residency.
“We couldn’t do it without the great mentoring abilities of the preceptors in every department,” Howard said. “This really gives the program the credibility that it deserves.”
