RAYMOND — A 15-year-old boy drowned after a canoe capsized at Governor’s Lake in Raymond, according to New Hampshire State Police.
First responders were dispatched to the lake near Governors Drive at 11:53 p.m. Saturday after a 911 caller reported a canoe had flipped over with multiple teenagers aboard.
The caller reported one teen was missing and believed to be in the water.
Marine Patrol officers, along with members of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Raymond Police Department, Raymond Fire Department and Raymond Ambulance immediately began searching for the victim.
State Troopers from the Troop A barracks also assisted in the search effort.
Divers with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department located the victim’s body around 8 a.m. Sunday, approximately 30 feet from shore.
Officials said the teen was not wearing a life jacket when he was found.
State Police-Marine Patrol has taken the lead in the death investigation, which they currently believe was accidental.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending an autopsy scheduled for Monday at the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the cause and manner of death.
