ORWELL — A Denver, Pennsylvania, man escaped injury after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing his tractor-trailer on Route 22A early Saturday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:56 a.m. in rainy conditions south of Brown Road, according to Vermont State Police.

Ivan Hrishka, 37, was driving northbound in a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia when he dozed off, causing the truck to veer off the roadway.

The tractor-trailer rolled onto its passenger side and sustained damage to its undercarriage and passenger side.

Hrishka was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.

State troopers responded to the scene with assistance from DMV Enforcement and the Orwell Fire Department.

The vehicle had not been recovered as of Saturday morning and is expected to be removed in the coming days.

Hrishka was issued a ticket for “Driving on roadways laned for traffic” under 23 VSA 1038, which carries a fine of $220 and two points on his driving record.
