SOUTHEAST — A stolen Land Rover crashed into a New York State Department of Transportation truck on Interstate 684, leading to the arrest of two Connecticut teenagers following a brief foot chase through the woods.
The incident began on April 23 when authorities issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert for a stolen 2025 Land Rover from Greenwich, Connecticut, believed to be traveling northbound on I-684.
Troopers from SP Somers spotted a vehicle matching the description speeding northbound on I-684.
The vehicle was later found in the Town of Southeast after it collided with the rear of a 2013 Mack truck operated by the New York State Department of Transportation.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, an 18-year-old male, and his 17-year-old male passenger, both from Connecticut, fled on foot into a wooded area.
Following a brief pursuit, both individuals were apprehended by a New York State Trooper and K-9 Fortini, with assistance from the Village of Brewster Police Department.
The driver of the DOT truck and two DOT employees, who had been collecting traffic cones on I-684 at the time of the collision, were transported to a local medical facility for evaluation after reporting pain.
The two occupants of the stolen vehicle were also transported to a local medical facility for medical evaluation.
Both occupants were charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the second degree, a Class C felony.
The driver was arraigned in the Village of Brewster Court and released on his own recognizance, while the passenger was issued a Family Court appearance ticket.
The investigation remains ongoing.
