WESTMORELAND — Deputies responded to a single-car accident on Route 5 in the Town of Westmoreland at approximately 6:40 a.m. on April 26, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.
Upon arrival, deputies determined that a 17-year-old male from Utica was operating a black 2012 BMW westbound on Route 5 at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle exited the northern side of the roadway, striking and damaging a mailbox and a utility pole before continuing off the road.
The BMW then collided with an unoccupied 2010 gray GMC pickup truck parked in a driveway, causing damage to the pickup.
The BMW came to rest in the driveway against the pickup truck.
The accident resulted in downed electrical wires across Route 5, forcing road closure until National Grid crews could clear the scene.
The teenage driver was transported to Wynn Hospital by Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Company for non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies issued traffic summons to the driver, returnable to Westmoreland Town Court at a later date.
Assisting at the scene were New York State Police, Westmoreland Fire Department, Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Company, Kirkland Auto Tow Company, National Grid and NYS DOT.
