Rome woman arrested with large amount of meth during traffic stop

ROME — A Rome woman was arrested after police found more than 265 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

Dakota C. Smith, 32, was pulled over by the Rome Police Street Crimes Unit at approximately 12:02 p.m. in the 100 block of E. Bloomfield St. for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

Officers discovered Smith was driving with a suspended license.

Further investigation revealed Smith was in possession of 265.3 grams of methamphetamine and an electronic stun gun.

Smith was taken into custody and transported to Rome Police Headquarters for processing before being transferred to the Oneida County Jail for arraignment.

She faces charges of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The Street Crimes Unit was assisted by the Patrol Division and the Special Investigations Division.
