Penn Yan man arrested for domestic violence, faces felony charges

PENN YAN — A 27-year-old Penn Yan man was arrested following a domestic incident where he allegedly assaulted a victim protected by an order of protection, police said.

Ryan G. Thomas was taken into custody by Penn Yan Police Department officers after they responded to a complaint about a domestic dispute.

According to police, Thomas allegedly slammed the victim to the ground during a physical altercation, causing injuries to the victim’s head and arm.

Police said the victim had an active stay-away order of protection against Thomas at the time of the incident.

Authorities also allege that during the altercation, Thomas obstructed the victim’s breathing by choking them.

Thomas faces multiple charges including criminal contempt in the first degree and aggravated family offense, both Class E felonies.

He was also charged with assault in the third degree and criminal obstruction of breathing, both Class A misdemeanors.

Following processing, Thomas was transported to the Yates County Jail to await centralized arraignment.
