BOSTON — Members of the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 36-year-old Dorchester woman on firearm charges following a traffic stop Friday evening.

At about 6:22 p.m. on April 25, officers on patrol near Columbia Road and Massachusetts Avenue observed a vehicle with registration plates belonging to a different vehicle.

Officers followed the vehicle, which made several abrupt turns in what appeared to be an attempt to avoid being stopped.

Police activated emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop near 76 Glendale Street.

The driver immediately exited the vehicle but was ordered to return inside, where officers made contact with both occupants and requested identification.

Officers determined the driver, Keysha Ortiz, had a suspended license, while the passenger, Yuberkys Recci, 28, of Dorchester, had an active arrest warrant.

When the vehicle was searched prior to towing, officers discovered a Canik TP9 SF Lite firearm with fifteen rounds in a high-capacity magazine.

Ortiz was arrested on multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle subsequent offense, and attaching plates.

Ortiz is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

Recci was arrested on a warrant from New Bedford District Court for “Leased, Failed to Return” and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
