BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s Drug Control Unit arrested a 30-year-old Hyde Park man on multiple drug and firearm charges following a police chase Friday.
At about 12:54 p.m., officers assigned to the Drug Control unit of District E-5 observed a suspected drug transaction in a vehicle near Washington Street and Carol Circle.
After recovering cocaine from an individual who briefly entered the suspect’s car, officers approached the vehicle.
The suspect, identified as Kristopher Depina, allegedly fled in his vehicle, nearly striking an officer before crashing into a parked car on Grove Street.
Depina then fled on foot, discarding clothing before surrendering to officers in a baseball field.
Officers recovered two plastic bags of cocaine and approximately $1,070 in U.S. currency from Depina.
During a search of the suspect’s flight path, police discovered a discarded backpack in a trash can containing a loaded Glock 27 with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.
The backpack also contained a fifty-round drum magazine with forty-three rounds, along with substantial quantities of drugs.
Police determined the recovered substances included 111 grams of Fentanyl and 322 grams of Cocaine.
Depina faces multiple charges including trafficking cocaine and fentanyl, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, and assault by means of a dangerous weapon.
He is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.
