BERLIN — A Middletown woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to shoot another woman in a Burger King parking lot, police said Thursday.

The incident occurred April 22 at approximately 9:55 p.m. in the parking lot of Burger King at 146 New Britain Road but wasn’t reported to police until the following day.

According to the Berlin Police Department, Juliana Rivera, 37, pointed a handgun at another female during an encounter involving three individuals in separate vehicles who were known to each other.

Police said Rivera’s firearm initially jammed, but she made multiple attempts to clear the malfunction while continuing to try to shoot at the victim.

One round was eventually discharged as the victim fled the scene in her vehicle, traveling northbound into New Britain, with Rivera allegedly following closely behind.

Detectives from the Berlin Police Department’s Investigations Division executed a search warrant at Rivera’s residence in Middletown following their investigation.

Rivera was taken into custody on April 24 and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

She faces charges of criminal attempted assault in the first degree with a firearm, threatening in the first degree with a firearm, reckless endangerment, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
