CONCORD — Nearly 200 drivers were cited during a four-day traffic enforcement initiative conducted by the New Hampshire State Police Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) on interstates across the state.

From Tuesday, April 22, to Friday, April 25, State Troopers assigned to the SEU conducted efforts on Interstate 93 North in Windham, Interstate 95 South in Greenland, Interstate 89 South in Sunapee, and Interstate 93 North in Salem.

During the four-day operation, Troopers observed 170 violations.

Of the 170 violations, 63 drivers were observed traveling 90 mph or greater, and 3 drivers were observed driving recklessly by traveling greater than 100 mph.

The New Hampshire State Police reminds all residents and visitors that the penalty for driving 86 mph or greater is a fine of $434 and could result in the loss of a driver’s license for up to 30 days.

The penalty for driving recklessly at 100 mph or greater carries a fine of $620 and a 60-day loss of a driver’s license.

The SEU – a specialized unit whose members focus on enforcing traffic laws, promoting highway safety and reducing the number of crashes on New Hampshire roadways – is equipped with modern technology and uses a variety of tools to effectively monitor and enforce traffic laws, including the State Police aircraft.

As warmer weather arrives and traffic increases on state roadways, the State Police remind drivers to be courteous, obey speed limits and put away distractions.

Troopers will continue to work with their partners at the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety to conduct focused traffic enforcement efforts to reduce excessive speed, detect impaired driving, prevent serious crashes and ensure the safety of all residents and visitors to the Granite State.
