AUGUSTA — Police are searching for a 16-year-old boy who ran away from home on Jan. 21 and may still be in the Augusta area.
Thomas Ashford, who has multiple mental health diagnoses, has run away before, according to information shared by the Augusta Police Department.
“He is a very intelligent young man,” police said in a statement that included information the parents were willing to share publicly.
Authorities believe the teen is “doing OK” and likely remains in Augusta.
Police decided to make the public appeal after “significant deliberation” and at the request of the boy’s parents.
Officials noted that Thomas does not like to be photographed, making recent images difficult to obtain, but his family provided several photos to aid in the search.
The department’s goal is to “safely reunite Thomas with his parents” and get him necessary help.
Anyone who sees Thomas is asked to contact Augusta police at 207-626-2370 or call 911.
