PENN YAN — A Himrod woman was arrested after allegedly abandoning a dog at a residence in Penn Yan, according to local police.

Naomi J. Pelton, 43, was charged with abandonment of an animal following an investigation by the Penn Yan Police Department.

Police responded to a complaint about an abandoned dog found tied to a fence at a village residence.

Officers made contact with a nearby resident who identified the dog and reported receiving messages from Pelton asking them to take the dog back.

According to police, Pelton had left the dog unsupervised with no care after tying it to the fence without making prior arrangements with the resident.

When officers questioned Pelton at her residence, she confessed to abandoning the dog, police said.

Pelton was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
