BOSTON — Members of the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 25-year-old Hyde Park man on multiple firearm charges following a foot chase Thursday evening.

Officers conducting an investigation around 5:54 p.m. approached Marquis Nicholas-Taylor as he walked on Walnut Avenue toward Rockland Street.

Nicholas-Taylor fled on foot when officers approached him, police said.

During the pursuit, officers observed the suspect holding his waistband while running.

Police reported that Nicholas-Taylor removed a firearm from his waistband and dropped it on the ground before officers apprehended him as he attempted to climb over a fence.

The recovered weapon was identified as a Kimber Micro 9 with one round in the chamber and four rounds in the magazine.

Nicholas-Taylor faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card (subsequent offense), firearm violation with two prior violent crimes, and trespassing.

He was also charged with motor vehicle law violations and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Nicholas-Taylor is scheduled to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
