NORWALK — Three men were arrested after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver who suffered lacerations to his face during an incident at a local gas station, police said.
Norwalk patrol officers responded to the CITGO station at 128 Connecticut Avenue at 11:46 p.m. on April 24 following reports that three individuals had assaulted a taxi driver.
Officers requested medical assistance for the victim, who had lacerations on the left side of his face after being punched and hit with a gas station squeegee.
According to police, witnesses and surveillance footage revealed the three individuals refused to pay their cab fare, assaulted the driver, and stole personal items from the cab.
During transport to the holding facility, one suspect, Lance Harris, 21, of Bronx, NY, allegedly kicked the inside of the police cruiser and broke off a plastic partition piece, which he used to strike the window.
Police said Harris struggled with officers as they attempted to remove the plastic piece, causing numerous abrasions to one officer’s forearm.
Harris also allegedly spit on a second officer’s vest carrier during the altercation.
While in custody, Harris damaged two separate security cameras, ripping them from the ceilings of multiple holding cells, according to police.
Harris was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, interfering with a police officer, third-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree breach of peace.
His bond was set at $50,000.
Also arrested were Christophe Bunting, 23, of Stamford, charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace with a $10,000 bond, and Cory Hampton, 19, of Long Island City, NY, charged with third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, and sixth-degree larceny with a $20,000 bond.
All three suspects are scheduled to appear in court on May 12.
