DELHI — A Sidney man was sentenced to one year in the Delaware County Correctional Facility after pleading guilty to violating an order of protection.

Lawrence A. Painter Jr., 35, received the sentence for Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree on April 23.

The case began on Nov. 27, 2024, when a woman reported to Officer Kevin McEwan at the Sidney Village Police Station that Painter, her ex-boyfriend, had come to her apartment and hit her in the face.

The woman, who remains unnamed per office policy, had previously been issued an order of protection against Painter.

Officers McEwan and Daniel Petersen located Painter and placed him under arrest.

Painter pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree on Feb. 11.

During his April 22 sentencing hearing before Judge John L. Hubbard in Delaware County Court, Painter stated, “I learned a lot, no one is worth my freedom, I want to make changes in my life.”

In addition to the one-year jail sentence, Judge Hubbard ordered a three-year order of protection for the victim.

First Assistant District Attorney Schuyler Konior Kinneman prosecuted the case.
