ST. JOHNSBURY — A 76-year-old St. Johnsbury man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly driving his vehicle into a ditch while under the influence of alcohol.

Frederick Mitchell was charged with driving under the influence and operating with a criminally suspended license following the incident on Sylvain Road, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks responded to a call at 4:09 p.m. about a vehicle that had driven off the road.

Upon investigation, officers determined Mitchell was operating the vehicle while impaired and with a suspended license.

Mitchell was arrested and transported to the St. Johnsbury barracks for processing.

He was later released on a criminal citation and is scheduled to appear in Caledonia County Criminal Court on May 12 to answer to the charges.
