SOUTHEAST — A Bronx man has been arrested for a year-old vehicle theft from a Southeast business, while a separate case led to charges against a Somers man attempting to purchase a car using a false identity, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
Alex Morales, 32, of the Bronx, was arrested April 16 on multiple felony charges related to a 2024 burglary.
The case began on April 4, 2024, when deputies responded to a Southeast business for a reported overnight break-in where a 2011 Chevy pickup truck was stolen.
The vehicle was recovered unoccupied later that day in the Bronx, where evidence was collected before returning it to the owners.
After a year-long investigation, Morales was arrested by New York City Probation Officers on a warrant obtained by Putnam County investigators.
Morales faces felony charges of third-degree burglary, third-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Following arraignment in Southeast Town Court, he was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility pending future court appearances.
In a separate case, David Koraca, 57, of Somers, was arrested April 12 after allegedly attempting to purchase a vehicle valued at over $68,000 using a fictitious name.
Investigators had been alerted on April 5 about a suspicious person at a Southeast car dealership attempting to conceal his identity during a vehicle purchase.
When Koraca returned to complete the sale, investigators observed him filling out paperwork using a false name and took him into custody.
Koraca later admitted to using a false identity and was charged with attempted second-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, second-degree falsifying business records, and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
He was arraigned in Southeast Town Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility due to multiple prior felony convictions.
