NORWALK — Norwalk police seized nearly 40 pounds of marijuana products and arrested one person during a raid at a local smoke shop Tuesday.

The Norwalk Police Department Special Services Division executed a search and seizure warrant at Clever Smoke Shop, located at 83 New Canaan Avenue, on April 22.

Police said the raid was part of an ongoing investigation into smoke shops selling cannabis products without proper licensing.

During the search, officers discovered various pre-wrapped marijuana cigarettes, edibles, and vapes hidden in a storage cabinet concealed by beverage boxes.

According to police, the items were packaged for sale and included gummies that exceeded Connecticut’s legal THC limit of 1 mg per serving.

Officers seized $7,030 in U.S. currency along with 287 pre-rolled cigarettes, 50 marijuana flower pouches, 215 illegal vape pen products, 49 illegal THC edible products, and a total of 38.596 pounds of packaged marijuana products.

Nileshkumar Pravinbhai Patel, 37, of Freeport, N.Y., was arrested and charged with possession of greater than 1 kg of marijuana product and possession with intent to sell over 1 kg of marijuana product.

Patel’s bond was set at $2,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 6.

Police noted that in Connecticut, it is illegal to sell products containing a total THC concentration greater than 0.3% without a state-issued license, and only licensed dispensaries can sell pure marijuana.
