Newark man charged with burglary after allegedly entering home with machete

ARCADIA — New York State Police arrested a Newark man after he allegedly entered a residence armed with a machete and threatened the occupant.

Jared C. Nesmith, 35, was taken into custody following a domestic incident reported to State Police from SP Lyons on April 22.

The victim told police that Nesmith unlawfully entered their Arcadia residence at approximately 2 a.m. on April 21 while armed with a machete.

According to police, Nesmith made verbal threats toward the victim during the incident.

Troopers later located and arrested Nesmith at his Newark residence without incident.

Nesmith was processed at SP Lyons and transported to Wayne County CAP court.

He faces charges of first-degree burglary, a class B felony; second-degree menacing, a class A misdemeanor; and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony.

Nesmith was arraigned in Wayne County CAP court and remanded without bail due to prior felony convictions.
