RYE — A Connecticut woman faces multiple felony charges after state troopers discovered she was allegedly driving drunk with three children in her vehicle on Interstate 95.
Troopers from SP New Rochelle stopped a 2014 Toyota Camry traveling northbound on I-95 in Rye for multiple traffic violations at approximately 11:13 p.m. on April 20.
The driver, identified as Claudia R. Ruiz, 40, of Greenwich, Connecticut, showed signs of intoxication during the traffic stop, according to authorities.
After failing standardized field sobriety tests, Ruiz was taken into custody.
Troopers discovered three children—ages 1, 6, and 11—were in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Ruiz was transported to SP New Rochelle for processing, where she provided a breath sample resulting in a blood alcohol concentration of 0.11%.
She was charged with three counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger (Leandra’s Law), which is an E Felony, as well as Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Ruiz was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Rye City Court on May 13.
