Schenectady police seize over $18,000 in stolen merchandise

SCHENECTADY — Police arrested three people after discovering more than $18,000 worth of stolen merchandise in a McClellan Street apartment following a retail theft investigation.

Officers responded to a reported larceny at Family Dollar on Eastern Parkway around 9 a.m. Thursday, April 17.

While patrolling the area, officers observed a male suspect enter a residence at 102 McClellan Street.

The suspect later exited and was detained, while a second male fled back inside upon seeing police.

Officers made contact with the resident and located the second suspect inside her first-floor apartment.

Police observed large quantities of merchandise in the apartment and obtained a search warrant.

During the search, detectives seized what appeared to be stolen merchandise including detergent, personal care items, and over-the-counter medications valued at $18,131.15.

Veari C. Mahabeer, 60, of Schenectady, the apartment resident, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony, and conspiracy in the sixth degree.

Arthur C. Harris, 23, of Schenectady, faces charges of petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, and conspiracy in the sixth degree.

Davon J. Terry, 26, of Schenectady, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and conspiracy in the sixth degree.
