NEWPORT — Members of North Country Union High School’s state champion snowboard team received recognition on the House floor last week for their championship season.
The team, which visited the statehouse on April 17, met with local Representatives Richard Nelson, Woody Page, Larry Labor, and Ken Wells, along with Senators Russ Ingalls and Sam Douglass. The snowboarders also met with Governor Scott and Lieutenant Governor Rogers.
Lawmakers gave the team an ovation and presented certificates of the official house proclamation honoring their achievements.
North Country’s boys team claimed the Vermont state championship at Jay Peak in March, while the girls finished as state runners-up. The Falcons dominated across multiple disciplines, with the boys securing state titles in both giant slalom and rail jam events.
The girls team captured the giant slalom state championship and placed second in rail jam competition.
Individual standouts included Dakotah Bowen, who won the girls individual state championship, and Quinn Goff, who earned runner-up honors in the boys competition.
The competition took place during rainy conditions at Jay Peak Resort and featured top high school snowboarding programs from throughout Vermont.
