NEWINGTON — The Newington Police Department is actively investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Saturday on Willard Avenue.
Police said Monday that while the exact cause of the crash remains undetermined, physical evidence at the scene has provided a fundamental picture of the events leading up to the collision.
Investigators have determined that the surviving victim of the crash does not appear to be at fault.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicles involved were not stolen and were not being driven without the owners’ permission.
Police cautioned that a crash investigation of this severity typically takes several weeks or even months to complete.
The reconstruction process involves numerous investigative steps, including collecting digital information from each vehicle, canvassing for residential or business video, interviewing witnesses, and conducting vehicle inspections and damage analysis.
Officials emphasized that their primary responsibility is to collect and evaluate all potential evidence to provide an accurate synopsis of the cause.
The department asked the public to respect the privacy of those who lost loved ones and to resist speculation about the crash.
