WEST SPARTA — A Livonia teenager faces felony charges after allegedly damaging vehicles found abandoned in a field, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
On April 12, deputies responded to White Bridge Road in West Sparta after a farmer discovered two vehicles approximately a quarter-mile off the roadway.
One vehicle had sustained substantial damage while the other had been reported stolen hours earlier, Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty said.
Investigators identified 18-year-old Malcolm Janson and several juveniles as suspects in the case.
On April 17 at 10 a.m., Investigator Martin Herkimer located Janson in Livonia and took him into custody on a charge of felony Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.
Janson was transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Town of Caledonia Justice Riggi, who released Janson on his own recognizance as the offense does not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Janson at the arraignment, while the District Attorney’s Office represented the People.
The investigation remains ongoing with assistance from members of the Criminal Investigations Division and the Patrol Division.
