Elmira man charged with attempted murder after double stabbing

ELMIRA — A man faces attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing two people early Sunday at a West Chemung Place residence, police said.

Officers responded to 260 W. Chemung Pl. at approximately 12:13 a.m. April 20 for a reported stabbing, according to the Elmira Police Department.

Upon arrival, police found a male victim with a life-threatening neck injury.

He was transported to Robert Packer Hospital and is now in stable condition.

A second victim, a woman, suffered minor injuries to her face and hand and was later treated at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Both victims knew and identified the suspect to police as Bruce Jones, who had fled the scene before officers arrived.

Jones was later located and arrested a short distance from the residence, police said.

He has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree and assault in the second degree.

The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office and West Elmira Police Department during the investigation.
