WOODFORD — Vermont State Police bomb squad personnel safely disposed of a suspected hand grenade discovered Friday afternoon at Prospect Mountain Ski Area.
Property management staff at the ski area contacted state police at approximately 3:25 p.m. after finding the suspected explosive device in a container while cleaning near the parking lot.
Troopers from the Shaftsbury barracks responded to the scene and confirmed the report before calling in the bomb squad.
The bomb squad successfully rendered the suspected grenade safe and collected it for proper disposal.
No additional hazards were found at the site, and no injuries were reported.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about how the suspected hand grenade came to be at the location to contact Corporal Travis Hess at the Shaftsbury barracks.
