Providence man arrested for carrying pistol without permit

PROVIDENCE — A Providence man was arrested Friday for carrying a pistol without a license, according to Rhode Island State Police.

Isaiah Mendez, 23, of Berkshire Street, was taken into custody at approximately 2:30 p.m. on April 18 by members of the HIDTA Task Force.

The arrest followed an investigation conducted by the task force, authorities said.

Mendez was transported to the Lincoln Barracks for processing and was special arraigned by a Justice of the Peace.

He was released pending future court dates in the 6th District Court.

In a separate incident on the same day, police arrested Miguel Ortiz, 34, of Woonsocket, at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Ortiz faces multiple charges including obtaining property by false pretenses, forgery and counterfeiting, larceny over $10,000, and conspiracy.

Details regarding Ortiz’s arraignment were not immediately available.
