SABATTUS — A two-vehicle collision on Wales Road left one driver with critical injuries Friday evening as authorities investigate the cause of the crash.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene near Stonewall Road at approximately 7:28 p.m. after a white 2014 GMC Acadia collided head-on with a black 2015 Chevrolet Trax.
According to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, Cole Whitten, 23, of Sabattus, was driving southbound on Route 132 when his GMC Acadia crossed the centerline and struck the northbound vehicle.
Kylie Langella, 25, of Westbrook, who was operating the Chevrolet Trax, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital where she remains in the Intensive Care Unit.
Whitten reported injuries at the scene, and a passenger in his vehicle complained of a possible back injury.
Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, but are considering driver distraction as a possible contributing factor.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident with assistance from the Lewiston Police Department’s accident reconstruction team, Sabattus Fire and Rescue, Lisbon Rescue, and United Ambulance.
