MARCELLUS — Firefighters freed a trapped driver within minutes following a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Slate Hill Road and Route 20 Thursday afternoon.
The Marcellus Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 1:29 p.m. after reports indicated a person was trapped in a vehicle.
Rescue 1, commanded by Assistant Chief Mayers, arrived and confirmed one patient was trapped, immediately requesting a timer to track extrication efforts.
Rescue crews removed the driver’s door using hydraulic cutters and spreaders to free the trapped occupant.
Engine 2, led by Lieutenant Aldrich, assisted with the extrication process and addressed hazards at the scene.
The patient was successfully extricated within four minutes of Rescue 1’s arrival.
Marcellus Ambulance personnel took over patient care following the extrication.
A total of 13 members from the Marcellus Fire Department responded to the incident, including fire police who assisted at the scene.
