Rhode Island police make multiple arrests in child crime cases

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island law enforcement officers arrested multiple individuals on charges related to child pornography, voyeurism, and molestation during a series of operations conducted between April 15-17.

Members of the Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Michael Arruda, 46, of East Providence, on April 15 as a fugitive from justice from Connecticut on twelve counts of video voyeurism.

Arruda was arraigned by Judge Isherwood, waived extradition proceedings and was ordered held without bail.

The following day, the same unit arrested Esteban Zaragoza, 24, of Providence, for possession of child pornography.

Judge Isherwood set Zaragoza’s bail at $2,000 with surety, limited internet access, and no unsupervised contact with minors.

On April 16, the Financial Crimes Unit made three separate arrests of individuals charged with obtaining property by false pretenses, fraudulently obtaining assistance, and providing false documents to a public official.

The Special Victims Unit and Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Aaron Reed, 36, of Providence, on April 16 on a Superior Court bench warrant for two counts of first-degree child molestation, procurement of alcoholic beverages for an underage person, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

That same day, the task force also arrested Ronnie Young, 44, of Providence, for harboring a criminal and obstructing an officer in execution of duty.

On April 17, Michael Dooley, 57, of Providence, was arrested for possession and transfer of child pornography.

Dooley, a registered sex offender, received bail of $20,000 with surety, limited internet access, and no unsupervised contact with minors, but was held as a probation violator.

The Violent Fugitive Task Force also arrested Nicholas Antoniou, 36, of Cranston, on April 17 on an arrest warrant for two counts of electronically disseminating indecent material to a minor.
