PLATTSBURGH — State Police responded to State Route 190 in Plattsburgh at approximately 11:16 p.m. on April 16 to assist the United States Customs and Border Protection with a vehicle pursuit.
Troopers observed a gray 2019 Chevrolet traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and State Police, along with the Customs and Border Protection, pursued the vehicle in an attempt to bring it to a stop.
As the suspect vehicle approached the intersection of State Route 190 and State Route 374, it lost control, exited the roadway, and became disabled in a field.
Two occupants fled from the vehicle into a wooded area.
A foot pursuit was initiated, during which the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department located one suspect, who was taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as Peter Ibrahim Habib Soliman, 25, of Staten Island, NY.
The search for the second occupant continued but yielded no results.
Soliman was transported to United States Customs and Border Protection by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department for further questioning.
At approximately 7:28 a.m. on April 17, State Police responded to a report of a vehicle theft at Stewart’s Shop, located on State Route 9 in Plattsburgh.
An investigation revealed that an unknown male had stolen a white 2016 Chevrolet from the parking lot and headed south on State Route 9.
While actively searching for the stolen vehicle, State Police located it traveling south on Interstate 87 in the town of Schroon.
Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but as the Trooper approached the vehicle, the suspect fled, prompting a pursuit.
The chase continued into Warren County, where State Police, Troop G took over the pursuit.
Troopers successfully deployed a tire deflation device.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop on the shoulder of Interstate 87 in Lake George.
However, the sole occupant of the vehicle fled on foot into a wooded area.
An organized search for the male suspect was initiated, utilizing units from UAS, Aviation, Canine, Investigators, and uniform patrols.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Department also assisted with the incident.
The suspect was later located by State Police near the shoulder of Interstate 87 and was taken into custody without incident.
He was identified as Onyx D. Calderon, 24, of Paterson, NJ.
Calderon was transported to SP Queensbury for further questioning.
Further investigation determined Calderon was the second occupant in the vehicle who fled from the first incident that occurred on April 16 with Soliman.
State Police Troop G members arrested Calderon at SP Queensbury and charged him with several offenses, including criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, and being a fugitive from justice for felony burglary.
He was also issued several vehicle and traffic tickets.
Calderon was arraigned in the Warren County CAP Court and was remanded to the Warren County Correctional Facility due to the charges he faces and multiple warrants from other states.
The State Police, Troop B, is applying for an arrest warrant to continue their investigation.
