HOLYOKE — Holyoke Police have issued 180 traffic citations during the first half of April as part of an increased enforcement effort, according to Police Chief Brian Keenan.
On Wednesday, April 16, Officer Brendan Leahy was conducting traffic enforcement in the High Street area when he observed a vehicle with a revoked registration.
Leahy conducted a traffic stop near 328 Maple Street, with Officer Justo Pagan arriving to assist.
When the vehicle needed to be towed, officers conducted an inventory search.
Officer Pagan discovered crack-cocaine in a vial located in the passenger side door panel, police said.
The passenger, identified as 33-year-old Xavier Nazario of Holyoke, was placed under arrest.
Pagan subsequently found heroin on Nazario, according to police.
Nazario is charged with possession of a Class A drug and possession of a Class B drug.
The driver received two citations and will be issued a criminal summons to appear in court.
