WEST HAVEN — Police arrested an interstate fugitive and his girlfriend, both wanted on multiple felony warrants, at a local restaurant Thursday afternoon.
The West Haven Police Department received a call from an out-of-state bail enforcement agency at approximately 12:40 p.m. on April 17, alerting them that the fugitive was inside Nick’s Luncheonette.
The fugitive was identified as Nathan Schaeffer, who has multiple felony warrants from various states and a history of carrying dangerous weapons and illegal fireworks.
His girlfriend, Catherine O’Sullivan, also had felony warrants out of Connecticut.
Officers located the couple’s unoccupied Kia with Pennsylvania registration in the restaurant’s parking lot before entering the establishment.
Inside, police found Schaeffer and O’Sullivan sitting at a table with a female juvenile.
When the suspects attempted to stand and leave upon seeing officers, police quickly gained control of Schaeffer before he could resist or flee.
Both individuals were escorted outside without further incident.
A search of Schaeffer’s rental car revealed a large quantity of illegal fireworks.
At the police department, Schaeffer provided false identification and was found in possession of an out-of-state debit card.
O’Sullivan was transported to another police agency in connection with her warrant, while the female juvenile was released to her legal guardian.
Schaeffer was charged with fugitive from justice, possession of illegal fireworks, identity theft, criminal impersonation and forgery in the second degree.
He is currently being held on bond and awaiting extradition.
